The Sierra Nevada Range is arguably America’s ultimate mountain range. Within this 400 mile long chunk of the American Cordillera is the largest alpine lake in North America, the highest mountain in the contiguous states, three national parks, two national monuments, and twenty wilderness areas. So dense and remote is the Sierra Nevada wilderness that it was not even fully explored until 1912, more than 60 years after the California Gold Rush. Whether it be big wall granite climbing, alpine-style peak bagging, snowshoe exploring, whitewater kayaking, or Pacific Crest through-hiking, America’s snowy range is the mother of radical adventure.
