Inspired by poet Leonard Cohen’s famous quote “There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in”, this design celebrates the ways our experiences shape us, and the perfect beauty of imperfection. Created using pieces of Delft tile from the 1700’s — including two Italianate landscape scenes — the cracks and slight imperfections from the original ceramic were included in the final print. Just as there is so much beauty in the patina, there is so much to embrace about the challenges we’ve overcome that make us who we are! The trim comes from an 1867 British book on classical ornamentation, and an earthenware plaque from the Netherlands painted in 1780. The ginger jar is a 1700’s French watercolour painting. 100% bamboo/wood viscose.
